MENTE ET MALLEO. From Ulisse Aldrovandi to Giovanni Capellini: stories of the first geology museum

On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the birth of naturalist Ulisse Aldrovandi (1522-1605) and the 100th anniversary of the death of the first professor of geology at the University of Bologna, Giovanni Capellini (1833-1922) , the exhibition MENTE ET MALLEO. Da Ulisse Aldrovandi a Giovanni Capellini: storie dal primo museo geologico (From Ulysses Aldrovandi to Giovanni Capellini: stories from the first geological museum), to rediscover the curiosities that had captured the interest of the father of modern natural sciences and the fossils that fascinated the great geologist. In conjunction with the exhibition, from 15 October 2022 to 13 May 2023, a cycle of conferences will be held to explore and divulge some historical-scientific themes linked to the figures of Aldrovandi and Capellini and their most important legacy: a museum created to divulge science to future generations.
