From May 28 to July 10, the studio-gallery Spazio e Immagini in Bologna presents the exhibition FOTOGRAFATI AL SOLE. The Italian Summer through Vernacular Photos, Snapshots, and Cinema in the 20th Century.
Curated by Matteo Giacomelli, the show features over 30 original vintage photographs, dating from the 1930s to the 1970s, offering an unfiltered and authentic portrait of Italian seaside culture. Blending photojournalism, anonymous family pictures, amateur snapshots, and stills from Italian cinema of the 1950s–70s, the exhibition forms a seamless and unpretentious narrative focused on the spontaneity and beauty of summer.
With ironic poses, everyday scenes, and charming details, the exhibition reveals a warm visual mosaic of Italy’s dolce vita by the sea — alternating iconic images of celebrities like Anthony Quinn and Brigitte Bardot with candid shots of ordinary holidaymakers.
