Bologna
The exhibition, organised with Musei Civici di Genova and curated by Mark Gregory D’Apuzzo, Simonetta Maione and Giulio Sommariva with Fernando and Gioia Lanzi, is part of a cycle of exhibitions comparing crib traditions from different regions with the purpose of documenting the extraordinary diffusion of this specific type of artistic production in Italy. This year, the protagonist is the school of Genoa. Ever since the first half of the 16th century, the city asserted itself as one of the liveliest centres for the production of crib figurines together with Naples and Bologna. In addition to the wealthy Museo Davia Bargellini collection, the exhibition enables you to admire two cribs dating back to the second half and late 18th century from the Museo Giannettino Luxoro di Genova. They constitute an example of the great quality achieved in the production of this particular type of sculpture, generally destined to be displayed in people’s houses.
