On Thursday 22 October 2026, starting at 6:00 pm, the MAMbo - Museum of Modern Art of Bologna hosts the opening of Dafne Boggeri’s exhibition Fuori registro, curated by Caterina Molteni.
Fuori registro is at once a solo exhibition and the telling of stories that emerge from an archive. Throughout her practice, Dafne Boggeri (1975, Tortona. Lives and works in Milan) has accompanied the production of artworks with the collection of documents, images, ephemeral paper materials and editorial artefacts connected to independent publishing networks, countercultural movements and the figures who have shaped their history. Over the years, this has developed into an archive conceived by the artist not as a simple documentary repository, but as a research tool through which to decipher stories that unfolded on the margins of official culture.
For MAMbo’s Project Room, Boggeri explores the archive across a time span stretching from the 1980s - in the wake of the post-1977 period - to the early 2000s, activating the section dedicated to Bologna.
The city is interpreted as one of the epicentres of Italian urban subcultures, where independent publishing, in the form of fanzines and the widest range of self-produced printed materials, becomes a space, often underground, through which communities, collectives and individual figures assert their creative and political practices, building networks of relationships and shared imaginaries.
The exhibition thus offers an in-depth look at Boggeri’s research through one of its most recurring themes: publishing, understood not so much as a field of production, but rather as a metaphor and semantic area through which to investigate alternative social choreographies and new forms of artistic experimentation. Alongside the archive, now part of the editorial and curatorial platform SPRINT, the artist’s works reinterpret techniques and tools from the world of publishing in new forms.
The title, Fuori registro, refers to a printing error, a short circuit in the production process to be understood not as a flaw to be corrected, but, from a methodological perspective, as an unexpected possibility through which to critically reinterpret a given structure. The very notion of the solo exhibition is also deconstructed, bearing witness to Boggeri’s collective and cooperative practice. In addition to co-founding SPRINT - Independent Publishers and Artists’ Books Salon, she is also co-founder of the artistic collective TOMBOYS DON’T CRY, which invites nobel4houselyrics, a young artist trained at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, to engage with the space through an airbrushed painting intervention.
The exhibition will be open until 10 January 2027.
