Three hundred and fifty years after the birth of Pope Benedict XIV (Bologna, 1675 - Rome, 1758), the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, in the premises of the Palazzo Poggi Museum and the University Library, is promoting the exhibition “Benedict XIV and Bologna. Arts and Sciences in the Age of Enlightenment,” which aims to recount the innovative work and cultural reform carried out in the 18th century by the Bolognese pontiff, and closely linked to the city's history.
The exhibition will be open from May 7 to July 27.
Bishop of Bologna in 1731, Cardinal Lambertini retained the episcopal government even after his appointment to the papal throne (1740), relinquishing it only in 1754, a few years before his death.
The exhibition also extends to three other city exhibition venues where some important objects related to the life and donations of Benedict XIV are preserved:
- Museo Civico Medievale | Via Manzoni 4
- Museo Civico Archeologico | Via dell'Archiginnasio 2
- Collezione di Zoologia | Via Selmi 3
