From 4 December 2021 to 20 February 2022, the Incamminati Hall of the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Bologna, will host the exhibition “Antonio Canova e Bologna. Alle origini della Pinacoteca” by Alessio Costarelli.
The exhibition itinerary wants to explore the relationship between Antonio Canova and the city of Bologna, its institutions and artists, highlighting the role of the sculptor in the history of the Pinacoteca Collection. The master of italian Neoclassicism contributed to diplomatic operations of extraordinary importance to recover from France the artistic heritage of the city, where it was accumulated after the Napoleonic suppressions.
Paintings, sculptures, manuscripts and documents coming from various museum institutions, libraries and archives will be exhibited alongside the works of the Pinacoteca, whose permanent exhibition itinerary will be an integral part of the project.
