Friday, January 16th, 2026, at 9:00 p.m., Little Women – The Broadway Musical will be staged at the Teatro Duse in Bologna, the new family entertainment production by Compagnia dell’Alba, based on Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel and brought to Italy for the first time in its original Broadway version.
The book is by Allan Knee, music by Jason Howland, and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein; the Italian adaptation is by Gianfranco Vergoni.
Direction and choreography are by Fabrizio Angelini, paired with the brilliant musical direction of Gabriele de Guglielmo, while sets come to life through the vision of Gabriele Moreschi, and lighting design is by Valerio Tiberi.
Premiering on Broadway in 2005 (after 55 previews and several Tony Award nominations), the musical has captivated audiences across the United States, Australia, and Europe.
Now it arrives in its Italian version, telling with music, passion, and poetry the lives of the March sisters — Meg, Beth, Amy, and Jo — focusing on the young aspiring writer Josephine March.
Set in the second half of the 19th century in Concord, Massachusetts, the story follows the sisters as they navigate the Civil War, coming of age, love, and creativity, in an intimate yet universal journey.
An adaptation that enchants families and new audiences alike: six generations who grew up with this novel can now sing, laugh, be moved, and dream once again, thanks to an impeccable Italian production in the grand tradition of live musical theatre.
