Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10 2026 at the Teatro Arena del Sole in Bologna, the show With Your Derisive Silence - A Study on the Letters from Captivity and the Memorial of Aldo Moro, written and performed by Fabrizio Gifuni, will be staged.

During his captivity, Aldo Moro speaks, remembers, writes, responds, questions, confesses, accuses, and takes his leave. He multiplies words on paper: he writes letters, addressing family members, friends, party colleagues, and representatives of institutions; he drafts brief testamentary provisions. At the same time, he composes a long political, historical, and personal text – the so-called memorial – starting from the questions posed by his captors.
The letters and the memorial are Moro’s final words, the collection of writings produced during the 55 days of his imprisonment: those that were recovered, or rather, those that have reached us. An unstoppable flow of words that was immediately sought to be contained, silenced, distorted, mocked. “Moro is not Moro,” it was said.
The press, almost unanimously, hammered public opinion by discrediting his words, while Moro cried out from prison his outrage at this further cruel torture.

Forty years later, the fate of these writings has not changed much.
Few people have truly read them, many have chosen to forget them. Yet the bodies we fail to give proper burial return periodically to make their voices heard. The letters and the memorial are today two ghostly presences; Moro’s body is the specter that still occupies the stage of our history of shadows.

After working on the public and private writings of Carlo Emilio Gadda and Pier Paolo Pasolini in two intense and powerful performances, weaving together a lacerating anti-biography of the nation, Fabrizio Gifuni, through a painful and persistent dramaturgical effort, confronts the starkest and most naked writing in the history of Italy.
