An ecological dimension and a profound sense of affection drive the idea of a sound-theatre work dedicated to Sardinia and, in particular, to one of its most mysterious and lesser-known aspects: the process of deforestation that the island underwent at specific moments in its history, which shaped its current geographical condition.
Sounds, text, and narration intertwine through the relationship between the music of Francesco Giomi and the textual excerpts of Fiorenzo Caterini, an anthropologist from Cagliari who has studied the phenomenon of woodland clearance in Sardinia more than anyone else.
The result is a work that not only aims to “tell” a story of systematic devastation, but also, through an artistic mediation, seeks to raise awareness of environmental respect and of the symbolic value these issues take on in the present historical moment. The form is that of a sonic action centred on a voice, constantly in dialogue with sonic materials ranging from soundscape to pure musical dimension, as well as with additional textual elements capable of creating abstract and surprising extrinsic connections.
