Saturday 18 April sees the opening of the Italian Basketball Museum (MUBIT) at the PalaDozza, accompanied by a huge free festival in Piazza Azzarita from 10.30 am to 10 pm, featuring basketball courts, mini-basketball, free-play games, DJ sets and food trucks.
Free tickets to visit the museum on opening day sold out within a few hours, but during the party it will still be possible to win some by taking part in basketball-themed challenges and quizzes.
From 3 pm, visitors with bookings will be able to enter the museum and visit the exhibition ‘Italbasket, over 100 years of an endless blue’, dedicated to the history of the men’s and women’s national teams from 1921 to the present day.
Here is the programme of events for the MUBIT launch:
- Three basketball courts will be set up: whilst the central court will be reserved for open play, where anyone can take part and organise their own games under the watchful eye of the stewards, the other two courts will host organised matches.
- From 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, there will be mini-basketball matches featuring the Pulcini and Paperine teams from the FIP Emilia-Romagna Regional Committee.
- From 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm, it will be the turn of Vincenzo Ritacca’s Italian Over-40s national team and the Fortitudo Overlimits lads led by Marco Calamai, with support from SEA.
- This will be followed by prize games, during which you can try your hand at various challenges, such as the three-point shootout, the classic Giro d’Italia and a quiz for true basketball fans: the ten winners will receive two free tickets for the Mubit, valid on the day or at a later date.
- DJ set until 10.00 pm
