Bologna lights up during the Holidays for the Jubilee Year 2025 with the project “Luci del Giubileo” (Lights of the Jubilee), an evocative initiative that transforms some of the city's most iconic locations into an immersive experience of scenic illumination.
Through mapped and sustainable light projections (LED technology), the project creates a spiritual and symbolic itinerary that celebrates Bologna's historic role as a pilgrimage stop toward Rome.
Illuminated Sites:
- Basilica di Santo Stefano (The Seven Churches)
- Basilica di San Francesco
- Complesso di San Michele in Bosco (Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute)
- Policlinico di Sant’Orsola (Sant’Orsola Polyclinic)

The Concept
The initiative is inspired by the “Oratio ante Crucifixum” (Prayer before the Crucifix) by Saint Francis of Assisi. The key words of the prayer define the light narrative and connect the various sites along a single path:
FIDES (Faith), SPES (Hope), PAX (Peace), LUMEN (Light).
The goal is to enhance the architectural and religious heritage, improve the evening usability of urban spaces, and promote a message of peace, brotherhood, and hope in a year of renewed collective spirit.
“Luci del Giubileo” is an invitation to experience Bologna in a new dimension, where art, faith, and community meet.
