Gypsum and ravine's path
Updated on 01 July 2021 From IF ImolaFaenza
The Via dei Gessi e dei Calanchi (Gypsum and ravine's path) is a 102-km trail that connects Bologna with Brisighella, counted among Italy’s most beautiful towns.
This trail connects the networks of the Regional Park of the
Gessi Bolognesi e Calanchi dell’Abbadessa together with those of the Regional
Park della Vena del Gesso Romagnola (recently designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site) through the typical atmospheres of
Emilia-Romagna, by enabling its wayfarers to experience first hand some of the
most significant geological sites of the area, amidst chalky outcroppings, karst
phenomena, caves and ravine formations. Before entering Romagna, the trail also
calls at Dozza, famous for its castle and the painted walls of its houses.
We recommend that you walk the trail in 7 days by planning
every stage according to your physical training.
The official website provides useful updates on the conditions of the main paths and a GPX track, together with complimentary information about the Guide of the Via dei Gessi e dei Calanchi and some contacts of experienced guides.
