The trails you should not miss
Updated on 06 March 2020 From Comune di Bologna
Bologna is the starting point and the destination of innumerable trails, branching off from the city centre or its surroundings all the way up to the green hills and plains with their sanctuaries, natural places of indescribable charm, or even reaching other cities. Distances can be covered in multiple stages over several days, in one day or in few hours. This is the perfect solution for expert and amateur hikers, or simply for nature lovers, there is something to fit all tastes! Here are some of the most fascinating ones:
Among the best known are the paths Via degli Dei and Via della Lana e della Seta, which connect Bologna to Florence and to Prato respectively, all the way through the enchanting Apennines. Moreover, they connect the regions Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany, linking the Piccola Cassia route to the Via della Futa SS65, a legendary icon thanks to the famous “MilleMiglia”, an open-road motorsport endurance race. The itinerary Alta Via dei Parchi stretches as far as the border with Marche, a region of central Italy, winding along the ridge of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.
The Gothic Line, with more than 200km, crosses the Bolognese Apennines and comes with beautiful views and interesting traces of the history that marked this territory during the Second World War. A leap back in time is also guaranteed by the Flaminia Militare, an ancient road dating back to the Roman era.
