Markets not to be missed
Updated on 01 March 2023 From Bologna Welcome
Bologna’s historic centre offers a great many markets of all
sizes, selling everything from fruit and vegetables to gifts and clothing for
all tastes.
Also flowers? Of course! There's something for everyone.
Discover the markets not to be missed if you're short of time
This is the oldest part of the city. Every day you will find stalls selling fresh pasta, fish, meat, fruit and vegetables (8 am-8 pm), historic workshops and craft shops (9 am-8 pm), restaurants and traditional taverns (12 noon-11 pm) where you can try all the local products and marvel at the vitality of Bologna.
Open every day (10 am-11
pm) except Monday, right in the heart of the Quadrilatero area,
close to Piazza Maggiore. Here you can stop for a drink or a traditional meal
indoors; or splash out and buy a local product as a gift for your loved ones.
You can shop every day in the many shops and stalls (Monday -
Saturday 8 am-7.30 pm) or stop off for lunch, dinner or an aperitif while
enjoying the bustling atmosphere of a market - and still be indoors (restaurants open every day from 12 noon-2.30 pm, 7 pm-12 midnight; Sunday 11 am-3 pm).
Just the thing if it's raining!
Mercato Ritrovato – Farmers Market
Every Saturday (9 am-2 pm) and Monday (only from June to August
5 pm-9.30 pm) in Via Azzo Gardino.
Slow food is the rule here: you can find out everything about local products
and producers.
Very local!
Piazza San Francesco Flower&Plant Market
Every Tuesday (8 am-1 pm)
the square fills with the colours and aromas of the St. Francis flower and
plant market. Lose yourself in the heady scents and enjoy the delights that
only nature can give.
Go bargain hunting! Every Friday and Saturday (8 am-5 pm), get stuck into the stalls in Piazza VIII Agosto to find that bargain. Bologna’s biggest and most famous and general market.
Not to be missed at all.
