Summer music festivals in Bologna and its territory 2026

Updated on 09 June 2026 From Bologna Welcome

In the summer, Bologna shifts gears: people head out earlier, walk more, and music ends up being the easiest way to decide what to do. June, July, August, and September come alive with countless summer music festivals that enliven different corners of the city and its surrounding area. There’s music for every taste: from large, sold-out arenas to small neighborhood stages, intimate and close to the audience. And the best part is that, often, the best music is free and waiting for you in the most unexpected places.

  • Sequoie Music Park and Oltre Festival

When: 16 June – 23 August 2026

When it comes to outdoor concerts in Bologna, the Caserme Rosse is one of those venues that always comes up. With Sequoie Music Park, summer takes on a distinct character: big live shows, crowds coming in from out of town, and that “big night out” vibe that starts the moment you walk toward the park. Among the most notable artists of this edition: Kneecap, Kid Yugi, Noyz Narcos, Mac DeMarco, Subsonica, Fulminacci, Caparezza, Opeth, Luchè, Frah Quintale, Tony Pitoni, and more!  Check out the full lineup.

In the same venue, on June 20 and 21, Oltre Festival: a weekend of music. A diverse lineup that takes you from pop and indie sounds to rougher, rap-infused moments, featuring artists in 2026 that include—among others—Giorgio Poi, Noyz Narcos, Sayf, Dov’è Liana, okgiorgio, Maria Antonietta & Colombre, and Faccianuvola. See the full lineup here.

Among the best-known names on the packed lineup: The Flaming Lips, Ernia, Zen Circus, Rancore, Levante, and Elio e le Storie Tese. Check out all the events on the calendar.

Sun Donato is a summer festival that transforms the Parker Lennon Gardens into a lively stage. The event celebrates contemporary Italian music and culture, offering an immersive experience spanning pop, rock, hip hop and neo-tropicalism. For the 2026 edition, the best way to stay informed is to follow the official channels and the Bologna Estate calendar when updates on the various dates are published.

Festivals in the Bologna area

Just under half an hour from the Two Towers, everything changes: fewer crowds, darker skies overhead and stages popping up where you least expect them. It’s the Metropolitan City’s ‘out-of-town’ summer, the one where a concert also becomes a day trip, and you find yourself returning to Bologna with the windows rolled down and the music still lingering.

  • Corti, chiese e cortili (Courtyards, churches and courtyards)

When: 6 June – 4 September 2026
Where: in the municipalities of Casalecchio di Reno, Monte San Pietro, Sasso Marconi, Zola Predosa and Valsamoggia

Corti, chiese e cortili is the most elegant and tranquil format: a host of events held in various villages, courtyards and historic spaces where listening comes naturally. You don’t go there ‘just’ for the artist; you go for the venue, for the acoustics, for the idea of sitting in a courtyard and feeling every note bounce off the historic walls of the venues hosting the concerts. Discover the programme.

  • Zola Jazz & Wine

When: 27 May–28 June 2026
Where: various venues in Zola

PredosaIn Zola Predosa, however, Zola Jazz & Wine plays a different card: jazz and the hills, with the aperitif often as much a part of the evening as the stage. Here, the key is the pace: you arrive early, take your time, enjoy the setting, and then the concert glides into the night. It’s one of those festivals that works perfectly as a couple or with friends, when you’re looking for something well-organised yet laid-back. Check out all the dates.

  • Intro Festival in Marzabotto

When: 26–28 June 2026
Where: Parco Peppino Impastato - Marzabotto

If you want to be surrounded by greenery and soak up a youthful atmosphere, the Intro Festival in Marzabotto is a choice that effortlessly combines music, activities and nature. The unique thing here is the whole experience: it’s not just a case of ‘I’ll pop to the concert and be back’, it’s a whole day you can build around the festival, with the pleasure of being outdoors and surrounded by nature. Discover the event.

  • Porretta SOUL Festival

When: 23–26 July 2026
Where: Rufus Thomas Park, Porretta Terme

Then there’s the Porretta SOUL Festival, where the energy suddenly soars. During those days, Porretta Terme doesn’t just ‘host’ a festival: it lives and breathes it. Soul is everywhere, the crowd is loyal and recognisable, the evenings stretch on, and it feels as though the music carries on even when you’re walking from one stage to another. Discover the event.

  • Varignana Summer Festival

When: 15 July 2026 Where: Palazzo di Varignana

For a more “special” evening, however, the Varignana Summer Festival (Palazzo di Varignana) is a different story: a hillside setting, a beautifully designed venue, and a perfect choice if you want to combine music with relaxation. It’s the perfect spot if you’re looking for a concert in a smart setting, where you dress up a bit more than usual and turn your night out into a little getaway from the city. Find out more about the event.

  • Reno Splash Festival

When: July 2026
Where: Parco Peppino Impastato - Marzabotto

For a rougher, freer summer vibe: the Reno Splash Festival, between Marzabotto and the Reno area, is the perfect choice. What makes it special is the community vibe: a stage, friends, days that flow without a strict schedule, and the energy of an independent festival that doesn’t try to please everyone (and that’s precisely why people love it so much). It’s one of those events best experienced by following the official channels, because each edition is different and surprises are part of the fun.

  • The Sound of Imola

When: April – October 2026
Where: Imola Circuit and city centre

For those wishing to venture beyond Bologna’s city programme, the event to look out for is The Sound of Imola. The festival operates on a decidedly different scale, bringing world-class productions and spectacular staging to the area. From April to October, the iconic Autodromo and the streets of the historic centre provide the backdrop for a series of memorable events. These are the highly anticipated shows destined to remain etched in the collective memory as the concert events of the 2026 summer season – unmissable for any true live music enthusiast. Discover the full programme.

  • Reno Road Jazz

When: 18 June – 13 August 2026
Where: in the municipalities of Argelato, Bentivoglio, Castello d'Argile, Castel Maggiore, Galliera, Pieve di Cento, San Giorgio di Piano and San Pietro in Casale

Finally, if you enjoy chasing music from village to village, Reno Road Jazz is the most ‘mobile’ festival: evenings spread across several municipalities in the Bologna plain, different venues and a schedule that’s well worth checking, because the perfect evening is usually the one in the place closest to where you are, perhaps discovered at the last minute. The festival takes in squares, villas, fortresses and courtyards, offering live concerts, meet-the-artist sessions, cultural tours and opportunities to delve deeper into music. Check out the programme on Bologna Estate.
