Which events are not to be missed in Bologna in 2026?

The 2026 calendar is full of unmissable appointments, celebrations, and concerts, ranging from events dedicated to culture and food. Here are 26 of the many 2026 events to mark in your diary that are worth a trip, a weekend, or a few days visiting Bologna and its surroundings.

Great Sports:

1. Davis Cup

The Davis Cup Finals will return to Bologna from November 24th to 29th, following the incredible success of the Italian national team last year. The Bologna crowd is eager to welcome back and cheer on the champion "Azzurri." And who knows, it might be the right occasion to see Sinner in blue again, after last year's withdrawal. 2. Giro d'Italia

The pink race returns to the Bologna area with a spectacular uphill finish at Corno alle Scale. The men's Giro d'Italia will cross the entire province of Bologna with the 9th stage Cervia - Corno alle Scale on 17 May 2026. It will pass through numerous towns, from the plains to the outskirts of Bologna (San Lazzaro di Savena), before taking the Apennine road and ending with an exciting finale on the slopes of the Corno alle Scale climb.  Info on the dedicated article->

3. Europa League

Will Bologna FC continue its European adventure into 2026? What is certain is that there is still a home match to put in the calendar: Bologna - Celtic at 6:45 PM on January 22nd. 4. Marathon

On March 1st, 2026, racing returns to the streets of Bologna with the Termal Bologna Marathon. Now an established event in the regional capital and increasingly an international race, it attracts athletes and enthusiasts ready to run or cheer on the participants who deserve the support and applause of the people of Bologna. 5. Volleyball Final Four

The men's volleyball Final Four Del Monte® Coppa Italia SuperLega returns to Bologna on February 7th and 8th, 2026, at the Unipol Arena, with the semifinals on Saturday and the final on Sunday, confirming the city as the permanent venue for the event. The best teams from the Men's Volleyball SuperLega will compete for the 48th edition of the trophy with powerful spikes. Tickets on Vivaticket->

6. WEC Imola

The Formula 1 Grand Prix will not take place in 2026, but major motorsport events continue at the Imola circuit. The crown jewel of the racing season is the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), which stops at the iconic Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari for the 6 Hours of Imola, scheduled for the weekend of April 17-19, 2026.

7. Portici Festival

Now in its 4th edition, the Bologna Portici Festival will likely return in June, following the success of recent years. It is an opportunity to rethink and enhance a common heritage and symbol of the city: the UNESCO World Heritage Porticoes. Updates on the official website->

8. Art Week: between the city and the fair

It is always among the most anticipated weeks of the year in the Bolognese cultural landscape. From February 5th to 8th, 2026, ART CITY Bologna returns for its fourteenth edition. This program of exhibitions and events is promoted by the Municipality of Bologna with the support of BolognaFiere on the occasion of Arte Fiera (February 6-8), under the artistic direction of Lorenzo Balbi, director of MAMbo - Museum of Modern Art of Bologna.

9. Fantastika

2026 will see the awakening of the dragon Fyrstan! Dozza returns as the capital of fantasy for Fantastika, the biennial exhibition of thematic illustration that features the Dragon of Dozza as its ultimate symbol. From September 19th to 20th, 2026. Updates on the dedicated page->

10. Il Cinema Ritrovato

The city's most important film festival turns 40. From June 20th to 28th, 2026, international guests from the world of cinema will present and accompany unique restored screenings, with the highlight being the evenings in Piazza Maggiore, in the grand open-air cinema set up in the square. 11. PhMuseum Days

The photography festival will return in its new biennial format. Founded in 2021 and organized by PhMuseum—a well-known curatorial platform dedicated to contemporary fine-art photography—it has quickly become a benchmark in Italy for those wishing to discover new visual languages and emerging talents. 12. Wolfango 100

To celebrate her father on the centenary of his birth (1926), his daughter Alighiera has created a series of events titled “Wolfango 100 – 100 Wolfango”. One hundred years after his birth, this review aims to highlight the many aspects of the Master's poetics; while he wished to be known primarily as a painter, his immense culture led him to explore numerous other artistic fields: drawing, sculpture, engraving, illustration, and numismatics. 13. University of Bologna and Umberto Eco

Ten years after his passing, the Alma Mater Studiorum of Bologna remembers a giant of literature. From May 27th to 29th, a special conference dedicated to Umberto Eco will trace the legacy left by the professor across all fields of culture: from fiction and semiotics to media. By his express wish, no conferences could be organized in his honor within 10 years of his death. Those years have passed, and Unibo now celebrates one of its most illustrious masters. 14. Porretta Soul Festival

From July 23rd to 26th, if you want to hear great music, the place to be is Porretta Terme, which as every year becomes the European capital of soul with the Porretta Soul Festival: two stages, one square, a town, and an entire territory to discover. Official website info->


15. Dalla’s Birthday – Ciao Festival

To pay tribute to Lucio Dalla on his birthday, various initiatives take place every March. Confirmed for 2026 as well (date to be confirmed), the "CIAO" festival celebrates Lucio Dalla's legacy by rewarding innovation and quality in contemporary Italian music, beyond market logic. Through the "Ballerini Dalla" award, it highlights original and prominent talents, as demonstrated by winners of past editions broadcast on Rai1. Updates on the official website->


16. Twenty years of UNESCO Music, Metallica, and many others

2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the appointment as a UNESCO City of Music, a title awarded to Bologna for its deep and rich musical history, from tradition to its vibrant contemporary scene. While there are no official news of dedicated celebrations yet, something is certainly brewing and various initiatives will celebrate this anniversary. 17. Budrio Ocarina Festival

The ocarina returns to resonate in Budrio in 2026: the terracotta wind instrument from the Bologna plains is once again the star of the Ocarina Festival, from April 16th to 19th, 2026. Official website info->

19. Auto e Moto d’Epoca

From October 22nd to 25th, engines roar back to life in Bologna: enthusiasts and industry professionals will find unmissable opportunities at Auto e Moto d’Epoca, the vintage car and motorcycle fair that has been established in the city for several years now. Official website info->

20. Persiceto Carnival

It's almost time for the craziest carnival in the Bologna area: on February 8th and 15th, 2026, the historic Persiceto Carnival is back on stage in San Giovanni in Persiceto. This century-old event is famous for the "Spillo" (al Spéll), a ritual where allegorical floats undergo a theatrical transformation in the square, revealing new colors and hidden messages. 21. Bologna Wine Week

22. Tartoflà

Between the end of October and throughout November, the white truffle is served! Among the various "Tartufeste" in the area, Tartfóla, the International White Truffle Festival, is certainly the most anticipated. Don't miss the chance to taste the finest white truffles. 23. Slow Wine Fair

From February 22nd to 24th, it's time to drink again at BolognaFiere: for the 2026 edition of the Slow Wine Fair, in addition to the wineries and tastings, significant attention will be given to Central and South America. Official website info->

24. Bologna Tech Week

Following the successful editions of recent years, Tech Week is expected to return in December 2026 (dates to be confirmed), with many widespread and diverse events in terms of theme and format, designed to take participants on a journey to discover the innovative future of which Bologna remains the epicenter. 25. Giardini e Terrazzi

For plant lovers, those with a green thumb, or simply those who love nature, May and September bring Giardini e Terrazzi, the garden show and market exhibition that brings Giardini Margherita to life. Updates on the dedicated page->

26. Diverdeinverde

Diverdeinverde will return in May 2026 (dates to be defined), the event that allows you to visit private and hidden gardens and courtyards, both in and out of the city.
