From the gorgeous medieval hamlet of Monteacuto you will enjoy a wonderful view over the underlying valley and houses suspended on the edge between the Silla’s creek on one side and the Baricello’s creek on the other. Past and remote memories will come to your mind while strolling along the narrow medieval cobbled streets. The presence of Matilda of Tuscany and the ancient impregnable castle still lingers in the twists and turns of this old town.
Make sure you take a sip of pure water from the Fountain of Poli (the first one who brought water to the town) and don’t miss a visit to the ancient wash house “I Pozzi” (a grey sandstone washtub of the 19th century, still used by the women). Take a walk to the unspoilt upper part of the town, and discover the seventeenth-century Church of San Nicolò, famous for retaining a stupendous altarpiece by Pietro Faccini, disciple of the Carracci, depicting "God the Father and the Saints Nicolò, Lorenzo, Giacomo and Rocco", as well as a beautiful eighteenth-century wooden crucifix by the sculptor Andrea Brustolon and a finely decorated holy water font made by local masons.
The village is surrounded by chestnut groves full of centuries-old trees, the perfect destination for autumn foliage lovers.
