Villa Impero was built in the early 19th century by the Marquis Mazzacorati as commissioned by Francesco Tadolini as a structure for festivities in the existing Aldrovrandi ai Camaldoli neoclassical villa.
The neoclassical style building is surrounded by a lush secular park. The interior features sumptuous decorations and frescoes that depict a type of anthology of the Bologna school at the beginning of the 19th century.
The villa was transformed into a new display space for contemporary visual arts for Bologna 2000 - City of Culture.
