Bologna
Ancient and splendid monastic centre located to the west of the city and since the last century used as a public cemetery, it originates from the Carthusian Order , which settled there in 1333. Consecrated in 1359, a new, massive bell tower, 50 metres high and divided into four levels separated by string-course ledges, was added at the beginning of the 17th century to the first small bell tower, dating back to the 14th century. The church, with a Gothic structure, is articulated on an unusual inverted T-shaped plan and is surrounded by four communicating chapels where canvases and images from churches, which were suppressed in the Napoleonic period, are kept. Inside you can admire remarkable paintings by the masters of the Bolognese school as well as the precious wooden choir, which was engraved in 1539 by Biagio de’ Marchi.
