Farnè is an ancient settlement where lots of elements testify the Celtic-Ligurian origins of Val Dardagna (Dardagna Valley) and its inhabitants, the Belvederiani. The river’s name has very ancient origins in turn, deriving from an Indo-European root meaning “rumbling water” and dating back to more than 15,000 years ago.
The round chimneys and the “mummies” are the two typical elements of Val Dardagna; the former is to be found only here, topped with a conical stone that can also be processed, while the latter is referred to by means of the modern term “mummy”, because the original name is still unknown. Those “mummies” are no other than masks or stone faces carved on the houses’ façades with an apotropaic function. The dense presence of these carved faces within an area located in close proximity to the Modenese territory, where the Ligures Friniates used to live before being assimilated by the Celts, could be a consequence of a direct influence of this tradition, which recent studies trace back to the Celtic era.
The sportfishing lake of Farné, also known by the name of Dardagna pond, is located in Molino del Tosco, close to Farné in the Municipality of Lizzano in Belvedere. This tiny slice of heaven is divided into two fishing ponds populated by shoals of rainbow trout, bred here in four fish-farming tanks. This area is also equipped with a portion of arable land, where miscellaneous and refined hortensias are sold.
It’s the right place to find peace of mind, surrounded by nature, relax and by multifarious floral scents.
