The MUV - Museum of Villanovan civilization is located in the places where, between 1853 and 1856, the Bolognese archaeologist Giovanni Gozzadini discovered and identified the first remains of one of the main cultures of the early Iron Age of Italy, to which he attributed the name of " Villanovan", which later became internationally known. With this term is identified a proto-historic culture, which, between the 9th and 7th centuries BC, characterizes Po Valley, central Tyrrhenian Italy and some places in Campania and the northern Adriatic coast.
On the first floor, the Muv hosts a Villanovan necropolis, dated to the 7th century. B.C., with a particular concentration of funerary signs. Of great value is the stone the so-called "Stele delle spade", of great interest for the complexity of the low-relief decoration that characterizes one of the two surfaces.
On the ground floor, the temporary exhibition "Objects from the daily. A day inside a Villanovan village", which exhibits significant finds from the Italian Iron Age, from excavations of inhabited areas and provided to the MUV by several Italian museums.
The visit is completed by the life-size reconstruction of a completely furnished Villanovan hut, which stands in the garden of the MUV.
