Precautionary measures to experience Bologna safely

Hotels and Other Accommodations

Hotels and B&Bs are open. Remember to book in advance so that your hosts can guarantee you a safe stay. Visitors can expect deep and frequent cleaning and enforced social distancing measures.

Restaurants and Bars

In the attempt to contain the spread of the Coronavirus, bars and restaurants will be closed. 
However, catering is allowed with home delivery without time limitations, whereas catering with take-away until 10 pm. As for the bars, take-away is allowed until 6 pm.
There are no limitations for restaurants inside airports and on highways.

Shops and Markets (Plus Commercial Activities)

All shops and markets are open. You are expected to wear a face mask before entering any of these settings.
On weekends and public holidays, shopping centres are closed except for pharmacies, grocery stores, tobacconists and newsstands.
Make sure you maintain a social distance of at least 1m between other patrons. Do your best to not linger inside shops for longer than necessary.

Moving around

Taxis, buses and trains run regularly and are sanitized every day. For a safe journey follow the directions given at the stops and on the vehicles and wear the mask. You can rent cars and bikes, but book in advance, so the vehicles will always be sanitized before being delivered to you.


Tourist Offices

Tourist offices are open. Come and visit us at Bologna Welcome Piazza Maggiore and eXtraBo Mon-Sab 9am-6pm, Sun 10am-5pm.

Museums and Exhibitions

In the attempt to contain the spread of the Coronavirus, museums are closed and exhibitions are suspended.

Parks, Gardens and Sport Facilities

It is allowed to do physical activity only in individual form, exclusively outdoors and in close proximity to your home, as long as the distance of at least one metre from each other person is respected.

The activities of gyms, swimming pools, wellness centres, spas and ski facilities are suspended.


Conferences, conventions, fairs and other events are suspended, with the exception of those that take place remotely.

Religious Sights

Religious sights remain open.

Guided Tours

Bologna Welcome guided tours are suspended.

Cultural and Leisure Activities

Cinemas, theatres and concert halls will be closed in the attempt to contain the spread of the Coronavirus. For the same reason, clubs remain closed too.

You will be allowed to leave your home from 5am to 10pm only for work, study and health reasons. It is mandatory to wear face masks both in outdoor and indoor spaces. Remember that traveling outside Emilia-Romagna and your municipality is not allowed, unless for the reasons mentioned above.
