Bologna
Osaka's theatrical print production is a significant chapter of the long and glorious history of ukiyo-e. Neglected for a long time by scholars and by the general public, at the end of the last century these prints became the subject of in-depth research and important exhibitions. This allowed us to shed light on a small production, but really original and of extraordinary executive quality. With the exhibition "Kamigata-e. The Osaka's colorful prints", the Museo di Palazzo Poggi - Sistema Museale di Ateneo, in collaboration with Centro Studi d'Arte Estremo-Orientale, invites you to discover the vibrant and original culture of the early nineteenth century Osaka, through a selection of 29 woodcuts from the collections of the Centro Studi d'Arte Estremo-Orientale e della Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna, on loan for use at the University of Bologna.
