Bologna
The exhibition, which originates from the idea of Carlo Ginzburg, revolves around the work of theAustrian architect Johann Fischer von Erlach (1656- 723), one of the leading exponents of the Viennese Baroque, who lived in Italy for a long time, between Rome and Naples. In this book Fischer assembled a gallery of 84 views of ancient and modern buildings, in which for the first time ancient architectures (biblical, Egyptian, Greek and Roman monuments) are presented without prejudice of any kind alongside with other monuments scattered in the near and far East: Turkish, Arab, Persian, Thai and Chinese buildings. The gallery is completed by a series of views of buildings and churches designed in Vienna and in other cities of the Empire by Fischer himself, as well as a series of vases also largely designed by him. The exhibition is divided into two distinct but coordinated sections: the first set up at the Archiginnasio and the second at the Academy of Fine Arts.
