Bologna
From 24 March to 24 June 2018, an exhibition which enhances Francesco Francia’s important works housed at the Bologna National Gallery, comparing them with the goldsmith and medal production of his atelier. Special attention is paid to the graphic, to his drawings and to the prints created by Marcantonio Raimondi in his atelier. Francesco Francia was one of the protagonists of Bologna art in the decades between the 15th and the 16th centuries. As a goldsmith he created many coins for the Bologna mint. His atelier also manufactured a great variety of items, most of them lost today, such as coins, medals, miniatures, jewels, projects for glass walls, in addition to the most famous frescos and paintings. Il genio di Francesco Francia. Un orafo pittore nella Bologna del Rinascimento (The Genius of Francesco Francia. A goldsmith painter in the Renaissance Bologna) is curated by Mario Scalini and Elena Rossoni. Promoted by Polo Museale Emilia Romagna – Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna in collaboration with Museo Civico Medioevale and Società di Santa Cecilia, Amici della Pinacoteca di Bologna.
