Art week is the week of art par excellence. It takes place in Bologna in January and February, accompanying the diverse programme of cultural events for Art City that take place in the city at the Arte Fiera trade fair.
And it is now on for a whole week, not just a weekend. Things get started in Bologna in late January with Art Week, whose debut edition will be celebrating all aspects of art. And it is on this diverse, cross-cutting stage that the Art City and Arte Fiera events will unfold.
Starting on 25 January, the city will play host to more than 70 events: a highly diverse, action-packed programme of events offered by the city’s cultural sector operators, including public and private institutions, galleries of modern and contemporary art, artist-run spaces, non-profit spaces and unconventional venues. Last but not least, the eagerly awaited ART CITY White Night will be held on Saturday 2 February, with many venues of the ART CITY Bologna event, as well as galleries, independent exhibition spaces, historical buildings and shops, staying open until midnight.
The cream of the various special and main projects include: the performance of Anthropométrie by les gens d’Uterpan at Padiglione de l'Esprit Nouveau, the first solo exhibition in Italy of Mika Rottenberg at MAMbo – Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna ( Museum of Modern Art of Bologna), the most wide-ranging retrospective exhibition ever organised in Italy of Croatian-born artist Goran Trbuljak, producer of conceptual art and active in the movement known as New Art Practice since the late sixties; at Villa delle Rose and the one-man photography exhibition of Thomas Struth, Nature & Politics at MAST.
