Via D'Azeglio, with its luxurious shops, is the fashionable meeting point of the city.
Due to its proximity to Piazza Maggiore, which always has been the social and political heart of the city, via D'Azeglio mirrors the wish of the citizens to live well: since the road was closed to traffic, people walk and chat along with light heartedness…

The ancient name of the road, from Porta San Mamolo to the intersection between via de' Carbonesi and Luigi Farini, was San Mamolo, while the other part towards Piazza Maggiore was called  “via dicta Platea Major”, or simply “Platea Major”.
The city council of January, 24th 1866 proposed to entitled the old via San Mamolo to Massimo Taparelli, marquise d'Azeglio,  leading literate, painter and statesman, royal commissioner of  Romagne region and brother-in-law of Alessandro Manzoni.
