Your experience in brief
We offer you a trek to Monte Castello, nestled in the woods of the Apennines, in a setting of great historical and scenic value. This place was strategic on the Gothic Line and the scene of the most important battle fought by the Brazilians of the FEB (Força Expedicionária Brasileira) during the harsh winter of 1944/45.
The Bolognese Apennines, on the border with Tuscany, will be the setting for this easy circular route, on easy and safe CAI trails. During the excursion, we will come across memorials dedicated to the FEB in Abetaia and Guanella, monuments dedicated to the soldiers of the FEB, and we will gain a better understanding of the contribution made by the Brazilians during the Second World War. We will end the day at the Museum of Iola (Montese MO), where there are artefacts from the Second World War and beyond. To get there, we will return to our cars and drive 15 minutes to the museum.
