Description
The Castle of Montefiorino dominates the Dolo and Dragone valleys with its imposing medieval structure. Built around a tower dating back to 1170 and expanded in the 13th century, it was repeatedly besieged and rebuilt over the centuries. Between 1318 and 1320, the Montecuccoli family erected a majestic fortress with inner courtyards and defensive towers, including the “Market Tower.” Today, visitors can explore the courtyard, the ancient cisterns, climb the tower for a unique view over Mount Cimone and Mount Cusna, and discover the “Hall of Reason” with the Montecuccoli coat of arms.
During the Second World War, it served as the headquarters of the first Partisan Republic (1944) and today houses the Museum of the Republic of Montefiorino and the Italian Resistance, with a modern, multimedia exhibition.
The visit will take place during the Montefiorino Truffle Festival, now in its 33rd edition, and will conclude with a tasting at the Pro Loco stand.
