Although it still remains a niche sport in Italy, American football has managed to carve out a significant space for itself throughout Europe thanks to its impressive imagery, showmanship and values, and media interest is continually growing season after season. Fair play, inclusion, respect for opponents and team mates are the keywords to describe this sport, increasingly “used” as a model for campaigns against bullying and for the promotion of social integration. The Italian Federation of American Football (FIDAF), affiliated with CONI as a Disciplina Sportiva Associata (Associated Sport Discipline) and active throughout the national territory for over half a century), will be hosting the European Junior Championship of American football, to be held in Bologna between July 29th and August 4th 2019. Eight teams, 7 days matches and over 600 athletes. Italy, Austria, France, Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Finland will face one another for the continental trophy.
