Rula Jaradat - Nadin Qubain - Ali Belazi | Bologna Festival

Friday, Oct. 25, in Bologna, in concert in the Oratory of San Filippo Neri will be Rula Jaradat and Nadin Qubain. Joining them in this musical journey through Arab heritage is the talented percussionist and vocalist, Ali Belazi.

A concert dedicated to the sounds, colors and atmospheres of the entire Arab "continent" with Rula Jaradat, Jordanian by birth, conductor, founder of the first women's ensemble of traditional music in her country and a refined virtuoso of qanun. With its 78 strings stretched on an inlaid wooden trapezoid and an extension of three and a half octaves, the qanun is a "magical," hypnotic instrument bathed in an aura of sacredness, the foundation of Arabic instrumental music. Alongside Rula, on the req (or riqq), a small frame drum with metal saucers, is Nadin Qubain, a composer, musicologist, violinist and percussionist who trained at the National Conservatory of Music in Amman.
