Quartetto Prometeo

On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the Quartetto Prometeo will be in concert in the Oratory of San Filippo Neri in Bologna.

In the concert by Quartetto Prometeo, Silver Lion winner at the 2012 Music Biennale, the New and the Old are interwoven in different ways. In Francesco Antonioni's Second String Quartet "Surfarara," performed for the first time in Italy after its debut at London's Wigmore Hall, the Ancient comes in the form of a Sicilian song of sulfur miners collected by Alan Lomax. Antonioni elaborates it, lets it emerge distinctly from the polyphonic fabric and intones a long-distance dialogue with the Sicilian cantor and the "pain of remembrance" that runs through his words. In Bartók's Quartet No. 4, however, the Ancient manifests itself in the exaggerated symmetries of its formal architectures.
