On Tuesday, 26 May 2026, at 8:30 p.m. at the Teatro Auditorium Manzoni in Bologna, Alexander Malofeev and the Leonore Orchestra will perform in concert, conducted by Daniele Giorgi: Grieg Op. 16 and Tchaikovsky's “Pathetique”.
PROGRAMME:
- Edvard Grieg Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, for piano and orchestra
- Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74, “Pathetique”
The legendary Gnesin School in Moscow, founded in the late 19th century, has trained generations of Russian pianists. Among them is Alexander Malofeev (born in 2001), whom the Italian public first encountered at the age of fourteen in a revelatory evening at La Scala, in the same months that Daniele Giorgi founded the Leonore Orchestra.
Their fulfilled promises converge in Grieg's Concerto, a manifesto of Nordic romanticism, where virtuosity does not obscure the transparency of the melody and the rhythmic energy is always imbued with spiritual tension. Tchaikovsky provides the counterpoint: a different but similar solitude, carried through to the last creative spasms, when music becomes confession.
