One of the most admired Italian pianists in the world is also one of the most secluded and antidive: we are alluding to the case of Enrico Pompili from Bolzano, born in 1968, who won the Opera Prima Philips Competition when he was only twenty years old, he subsequently won the Santander Competitions in Spain and Hamamatsu in Japan, recording for Philips, Phoenix, Stradivarius and Brilliant, especially by twentieth-century and contemporary authors.
He was a pupil of Andrea Bambace and he studied with Lazar Berman, Leon Fleischer, Alexander Lonquich and Fou Ts'Ong. He has a transcendental technique and a sound of natural beauty, qualities that would make him rise to the role of virtuoso. In reality he is a virtuoso of the keyboard, but with him the music prevails, the depth of the sound, the sense of poetic research and spirituality.
The artistic direction of Pianofortissimo is pleased to invite him to its ninth edition 2021, offering its public the opportunity to learn about the exquisite art of one of the greatest masters of contemporary piano, engaged in a program expressly built for the festival: a real and precisely “Homage to Bologna” in which music from the Renaissance to the present is wisely combined, flowing from Jacopo da Bologna, Filippo Azzaiolo, Alessandro Stradella, Giovanni Battista Martini, Fryderyk Chopin, Ottorino Respighi, Maurice Ravel, up to Giacinto Scelsi and Karlheinz Stockhausen.
