On Sunday, 21 June 2026, Claudio Ortensi and Alberto Spinelli will perform live in the Andrea and Rossano Balbi Hall at the Circolo della Musica in Bologna.
Flautist Claudio Ortensi and pianist Alberto Spinelli, both graduates of the G. B. Martini Conservatory in Bologna, are highly active as teachers and performers, both as soloists and chamber musicians. Ortensi studied with Giorgio Zagnoni and further refined his artistry under the guidance of the renowned Hungarian flautist András Adorján. Spinelli, meanwhile, developed his chamber music expertise through collaborations with distinguished musicians such as Dino Asciolla, Franco Rossi, and the Tchaikovsky Trio.
Drawing from his extensive repertoire—which also includes contemporary music—Claudio Ortensi presents a programme featuring both masterpieces and rare gems. The concert opens with the radiant G major of Mozart’s Fifth Sonata for Flute and Piano, followed by the most celebrated work for solo flute, Syrinx by Claude Debussy, whose title alone evokes a magical world. The programme then continues with the much rarer Suite in F Major, Op. 68 for flute and piano by Alessandro Longo (1864–1945), a composer from Amantea. This finely crafted work is known primarily among professional flautists.
The second half features two so-called “Pot-Pourris” on Verdi’s Ernani and Il Trovatore by C. Schatz, followed by the best-known and most entertaining Hungarian Pastoral Fantasy, Op. 26 by the Austrian flautist-composer Albert Franz Doppler (1821–1883). The concert concludes with a small masterpiece for flute and piano: the Sonata in C Major by Gaetano Donizetti, a celebrated favourite of Severino Gazzelloni, often performed in duo with Bruno Canino.
