From 18 October to 1 December 2024 Bologna will be full of music with cantabo, the Festival that brings high quality music to the capital every year, with important guests from the national scene and beyond. We will hear ensembles of various sizes, repertoires and styles, because cantabo is a creative festival open to the different souls of vocal expression!
We will open on 18 October (Church of SS. Bartolomeo e Gaetano, Strada Maggiore, 4) with the celebrated St. Jacobs Chamber Choir from Stockholm, which offers a contemporary repertoire from northern Europe of rare beauty and listening.
On 26 October (SS. Vitale e Agricola church, via San Vitale 50) it will be the turn of the ensemble Le tre Sorelle, a female trio exploring vocal and instrumental pieces from the paraliturgical tradition of southern Italy.
On 16 November (Conservatorio ‘Martini’, piazza Rossini, 2) we will meet the fresh voices of the Coro Giovanile Il Calicanto from Salerno, while on 17 November (Tempio Metodista Valdese, via Venezian, 1) we will be enchanted by the excellent Insieme Vocale Vox Cordis from Arezzo.
On 24 November (Church of SS. Bartolomeo e Gaetano, Strada Maggiore, 4), the traditional concert in honour of Santa Cecilia, the patron saint of music, is dedicated to the Bolognese choirs Per futili motivi, the Gruppo Vocale Heinrich Schütz and Ensemble Coelacanthus.
On 30 November (Museo Internazionale della Musica, strada Maggiore, 34 - appointment with compulsory booking to be made on the Museum's institutional website) we will listen to the Renaissance interpretative wisdom of the Tuscan ensemble passisparsi.
We will close the Festival on 1 December (Sanctuary of Corpus Domini, via Tagliapietre, 19) with the Regional Choir of Emilia-Romagna and the Rapsody Orchestra. The charity event, called the ‘Thanksgiving Concert’, will aim to raise funds for the Identes missionary community.
It will be a musical journey that will range from northern lights to tammuriata, from music on texts by Calvino and Vincenzo Galilei to great works for choir and orchestra.
