Bologna Jazz Festival is a music festival dedicated to live jazz in the best theatres and music clubs in Bologna and neighbouring cities.
Bill Frisell (born in Baltimore in 1951) is one of the guitar heroes of jazz from the 1980s to today. On Pat Metheny's recommendation, his recording debut was for the ECM label, which allowed him to express himself both as a leader and as 'house' guitarist (in particular for Paul Motian and Jan Garbarek). Frisell managed to achieve planetary fame despite being to all intents and purposes an avant-garde player (his collaborations with John Zorn and Tim Berne are unforgettable). The fellowship with two long-standing collaborators such as Thomas Morgan and Rudy Royston is such that together with them Frisell can steer his music in any direction with the utmost spontaneity. With this trio, the guitarist can tackle his immense original repertoire as well as his favourite folk and popular standards.
