Bologna
More than ten years after the exhibition at the Museo Civico Archeologico, Marino Marini's "Cavalieri e cavalli" (Knights and Horses) return to Bologna in an important exhibition set up in the rooms of Palazzo Boncompagni. The works - 23 owned by the Marino Marini Foundation of Pistoia and a plaster sculpture from a private collection - were created between 1939 and 1963 and are dedicated to one of the artist's most beloved themes, the equestrian group: a true symbol, a highly original language chosen to read reality and narrate the human condition through figures that, over time, become less defined and more metaphorical. "There is the whole history of humanity and nature in the figure of the knight and the horse, in every age. It's my way of telling the story. It is the character I need to give shape to the passion of man."
Together with the 18 sculptures, 6 large paintings are also on display, testifying to the quality of Marino Marini's brush, all set in the Renaissance rooms of Palazzo Boncompagni, recently reopened to the public, which was the residence where Pope Gregory XIII was born and lived until his ascent to the papal throne on May 13, 1572. This Marino Marini's exhibition is the second one organized by Palazzo Boncompagni, which carries on its intent to deepen the work of contemporary artists, offering to the Bolognese, and not only, the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful Renaissance palaces of the historical center.
