MAGMA gallery is pleased to present "Anatomy of Rainbow", Jan Kaláb's solo show from 22 October to 20 November 2022 at the Ex-Chiesa di San Mattia in Bologna.
A gigantic installation, in which the public can enter and move, and a hypnotic video projection celebrate the strong bond between the Czech artist, one of the most important and well-known of Pop Abstractionism, and the Bolognese gallery. An active collaboration since the beginning of the MAGMA gallery activity and which has seen Kaláb protagonist numerous times over the time of various exhibitions.
For the first time, however, the artist is confronted with an environment other than the gallery one. The former Church of San Mattia, in fact, with its high vaults, with the complexity of its proportions, with the ancient frescoes of its niches, represents a new opportunity for dialogue between art and the public.
The large site-specific installation measuring 6x4 meters welcomes the viewer and leads him inside, in a game of optical illusions that unfolds throughout the environment, creating a pictorial space capable of three-dimensionally expressing Jan Kaláb's poetics. It is certainly an important point for the artist who takes up the sculptural gigantism already experienced in the past but with a maturity and awareness perhaps never achieved so far.
