The appointment with photography in Bologna is renewed with a surprising discovery: from December 3, 2025 to February 1, 2026, the Cineteca di Bologna presents a selection of shots featured in the exhibition Giuseppe Pezzini. Itinerant Photographer, curated by Elena Correra and Giuseppe Savini, and on display at the Galleria Modernissimo.
Exhibited for the first time, the work of Giuseppe Pezzini offers us the взгляд of a unique witness to the agricultural world of the “Bassa” region between the 1930s and the 1970s: the Cineteca has recently acquired his vast archive consisting of 200,000 negatives. An immense collection documenting more than forty years of work carried out in the countryside between Bologna and Ferrara.
The exhibition Giuseppe Pezzini. Itinerant Photographer brings together photographs taken between 1935 and 1952.
Completing the exhibition Giuseppe Pezzini. Itinerant Photographer are also photographs by Francesco Guidicini, a photographer of great international renown (some of his portraits are part of the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery), who has returned today to the places once photographed by Giuseppe Pezzini.
Promoted by the Cineteca di Bologna, the exhibition is supported by the Municipality of Bologna, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Ministry of Culture, and sponsor PizzAltero. Thanks are extended to the Archival and Bibliographic Superintendency of Emilia-Romagna.

At the end of June 2024, with the start of the 38th edition of the Il Cinema Ritrovato festival, the new access to the Cinema Modernissimo and the Modernissimo Exhibition Gallery was inaugurated: through the “Pensilina” (shelter), located in the center of Piazza Re Enzo, it is possible to access the cinema by going down the stairs or using the elevator.
