"Membrane Culturali" festival in Pinacoteca

Updated on 07 June 2023 From Bologna Welcome

On 20 May, the “Membrane culturali” (Cultural Membranes) festival began, which aims to re-imagine the spaces of the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Bologna. The rooms of the Pinacoteca, and sometimes those of the detached premises of Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande, will be inhabited by different artistic languages, through classical and contemporary music, dance, performance, and some workshops.

"Membrane Culturali" is a six-month programme of 18 appointments, realised in collaboration with the Orchestra Senzaspine, and partially financed through the contribution of the Direzione Generale Spettacolo of the Ministry of Culture; it is in turn part of the Bologna Estate review.

The first event saw the precious performance of Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons", a cornerstone of the classical repertoire, by the Senzaspine Orchestra, in the magnificent halls of Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande, frescoed by the main protagonists of the great Bolognese decoration, between the second half of the 17th century and the beginning of the following century.

The second event was again organised by Orchestra Senzaspine, whose mission is to disseminate classical music culture, in the most engaging and simple way possible, to a wide audience. In fact, the concert at the Piazzetta Roberto Raviola ranged from classical to pop music, proposing an extremely heterogeneous repertoire between classical and modern, which included soundtracks, pop music pieces, Pop-Rock pieces revisited, with a small selection of Overtures, Arias and classical pieces taken from the most famous operas.

Upcoming events include screenings, such as the documentary on Perugino, a significant artist in the Renaissance: "Perugino, Rinascimento immortale" (Perugino, Immortal Renaissance) by Giovanni Piscaglia, the Festa della Musica (Music Festival), a series of piano performances with exceptionally talented young pianists, to explore the piano repertoire of the last three centuries, from the 19th century to the present day.

There will also be two appointments dedicated to dance organised by DNA (Compagnia di Danza Contemporanea), which for the three-year period 2022-2024 is among the companies recognised by the MIC - Ministry of Culture, and has won the Emilia-Romagna Region's call for live performance activities.

Creative workshops for children will not miss as well as performances with the most interesting artists of the contemporary cultural scene, in which music, images, narration, theatre and photography will meet several times.

The appointments, which will last until the end of October, are all free of charge, but require booking, so we advise you to follow the Pinacoteca's social channels, and the updates on the Pinacoteca's official website
