Frida Kahlo. The Gaze as Identity

From March 28 to September 27, 2026, Palazzo Pepoli hosts the exhibition on Frida Kahlo. Featuring 70 original photographs taken by leading photographers, the exhibition invites the public to reflect on the origins of the artist’s myth and the ways she used to become an icon of identity, the body, pain, and self-representation.




Mattia Moreni. The Retrospective – MAMbo

Until May 31, 2026, MAMbo pays tribute to Mattia Moreni, a key figure in European Informal art. The exhibition focuses on the artist’s mature years, characterized by powerful gesture and a material use of color, anticipating highly topical ecological and technological themes.

Michelangelo Pistoletto – Palazzo Boncompagni

You have until June 3, 2026 to admire "From Cittadellarte to Statodellarte". The master of Arte Povera exhibits his celebrated Mirror Paintings and historic installations, which engage in dialogue with the Renaissance architecture of the palace. A rare opportunity to reflect on the social responsibility of art.

Viva Varda! Cinema is female – Modernissimo Gallery

Opened on March 5, 2026, and running until January 10, 2027, in the Piazza Re Enzo Underpass Gallery. The exhibition on Agnès Varda is a multimedia journey interweaving video installations and photographs, exploring the feminist and poetic vision of the "grandmother of the French New Wave".


Ruth Orkin. The illusion of time – Palazzo Pallavicini

One of the most anticipated exhibitions of the season, open until July 19, 2026. Beyond the world-famous shot American Girl in Italy, the retrospective explores Orkin’s talent for blending photography and cinematic language, capturing urban life with unique irony and sensitivity.

Banksy Archive 01: The School of Bristol – Palazzo Fava

Opening on March 27, 2026 and running until August 2. Not a simple exhibition, but a philological analysis of the underground context of Bristol between 1983 and 2005. On display are archive materials, photographs and original works by the world’s most enigmatic urban artist.

Graphic Japan. From Hokusai to Manga – Archaeological Museum

There is still time until April 6, 2026 for this fascinating visual journey. The exhibition explores the evolution of Japanese aesthetics, bringing the precious woodblock prints of Hokusai and Hiroshige into dialogue with the modern pop culture of Manga and Anime. You will discover how the line and color of the Land of the Rising Sun influenced Western art, from nineteenth-century Japonism to the icons of contemporary comics.

Identity, the Plural Self (do ut do) – Palazzo Pepoli

Closing on April 6, 2026, this group exhibition promoted by do ut do explores the complexity of the concept of identity in today’s liquid society. Through works by internationally renowned artists and designers, the exhibition winds through the permanent museum route, creating a striking contrast between the history of Bologna and contemporary visions.

Bartolomeo Cesi (1556-1629). Painting of silence in the age of the Carracci – Medieval Museum

Last few days until April 6, 2026 to discover one of the leading figures of Bolognese painting between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The exhibition highlights Cesi’s formal rigor and deep spirituality, whose art offered a solemn and meditative alternative to the exuberant style of the Carracci.

John Giorno: the performative word – MAMbo

Until May 3, 2026, MAMbo hosts the first major Italian retrospective dedicated to John Giorno. An icon of Pop Art and a pioneer of performance poetry, Giorno revolutionized the written word. On display are his Poem Paintings, sound installations and videos celebrating his life between activism and counterculture.
