Erected in the early Sixties in order to properly remember all war casualties and located in the crypt of the local parish church, the Sanctuary hosts the spoils of partisans and civilians alike; most of them were victims of the nazi-fascist murderous reprisals which hit Marzabotto between September 29th and the first days of October 1944.
Inside, on three great marble tombstones, are also inscribed the names of the victims of the Marzabotto, Monzuno, Grizzana and Castel di Casio which were not properly identified or buried in the sanctuary.
At the intersection of the main nave and the transept, on four facades, white marble memorial stones report the motives which led to the Golden Medal for Military Valor being posthumously awarded to chaplain Father Giovanni Fornasini, Partisan commander Mario “Lupo” Musolesi, sixteen-year-old Partisan Gastone Rossi and Partisan combatant Francesco Calzolari.
