Gan Eden is located in the municipality of Monterenzio, in a privileged position for visiting many of the most fascinating and characteristics areas of the territory. The same property is located a few kilometres from Monte Bibele, an archaeological site known by researchers as one of the few European examples of cohabitation between the Etruscan people and the Celtic Gauls Boii. Our B&B it’s 39km to the centre of Bologna and 82km to Firenze. Is worth mentioning the ‘Santa Maria di Zena’ sanctuary, better known as Monte delle Formiche. This name comes from a very special natural event that occurs every year, since ancient times, when in the early days of September, the males of winged ants migrate from the centre of Europe in droves on this peak to accomplish their nuptial flight. Once mated, hundreds of thousands of ants, go to die in the sanctuary area. By tradition the culmination of this event can be observed on September 8, become the celebration day of the sanctuary, even if the exact date may vary depending on weather conditions. The importance of the sanctuary is also due to its privileged position that allows you to enjoy an amazing view and the presence of the hermit's cave, carved into the rock and lived in the sixteenth century by a hermit belonged to the Jesuit order. Today, unfortunately, the cave is visible only from the outside due to a natural collapse of the rock in 2003. With a brief excursion, can still be admired the tracks of an ancient path of watermills that once characterized the area between Loiano and Monghidoro, or can be admired the sky and the stars without the negative and annoying effects of the city lighting, at the Astronomical Observatory of Loiano. It’s also worth mentioning, for the motorcycle passionate, that the B&B Gan Eden can be a perfect starting point to do part of the itinerary of the Passo della Futa. What once was the route 65, is defined by motorcycle riders as an ideal route that, as it ends in Tuscany, not only guarantees breathtaking views but also gives you the possibility to taste an excellent ‘fiorentina’ in one of the many restaurants of the area.
