Spring is blossoming in Bologna

Updated on 28 March 2024 From Bologna Welcome

Spring bestows on Bologna the charm of a hidden garden and unveils its innermost soul, with the first blossoms of the season. Once again this year, from March to June, the first buds appear on the trees scattered around the city and outside the centre.

The atmosphere is magical, wafting to every corner, bringing a warm smile to the many visitors and citizens. Want to bet it will catch your eye too?

Strolling down the streets of Bologna is even more atmospheric between Via degli Orefici and Via delle Drapperie, where you will encounter a riot of blossoming trees coloured white and pink by the flowering wild cherry trees. Stop here for a quick aperitif or lunch to take away.

Continue towards Via Castiglione to the city's largest green lung: Giardini Margherita. Catch your breath on a bench or wander around its size, contemplating the blooming, evergreen trees. An enchanting place for jogging and outdoor sports enthusiasts.

The full blossoming of cherry trees, magnolias and plum trees can also be found in the San Pellegrino Park, known as 'Ai 300 scalini', and the Villa Ghigi Park, steeply sloping towards the first hills of Bologna. Surrounded by flowers and fruit trees, it will be a real pleasure to walk with your four-legged friends or children along.

Other lush peripheral green paradises are the Villa Angeletti Park in Bolognina, the Lunetta Gamberini Gardens in the Santo Stefano area, or the Parco della Chiusa in Casalecchio di Reno (BO).

Until 29 April 2024, Corticella's little Holland will once again be waiting for you with a fairytale tulip park set up at a cheap price and open to everyone, young and old alike. Did you know that collecting flowers is part of the experience?

Choose your date and take home a bouquet of freshly picked tulips!

What if you ventured out of Bologna?

The perfect out-of-town excursion among the most beautiful flower-filled fields and villages cannot but start from the Giardino degli Angeli in Castel San Pietro Terme (BO), the poppy and flower meadows in the Valsamoggia area, the colourful flowering shrubs of Borgo Tresana in Porretta Terme (BO) and the spontaneous blooms of Monte Sole, Corno alle Scale and Parco dei Gessi Bolognesi e Calanchi dell'Abbadessa, recently named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
