ART CITY Bologna 2024

Once again this year Bologna will become the stage for contemporary art for the twelfth edition of ART CITY, which will take place from 1 to 4 February 2024. Promoted by the Municipality of Bologna and BolognaFiere on the occasion of Arte Fiera and directed for the seventh year by Lorenzo Balbi, director of MAMbo - Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna, the art week will accompany, as per tradition, the course of Arte Fiera, which this year reaches its fiftieth edition.

To celebrate this milestone, this year Art City has decided to pay homage to Giorgio Morandi on the 60th anniversary of his death, proposing a programme inspired by him. There will be five special projects that will reinterpret the Maestro's work through five contemporary languages: Virgilio Sieni will stage "Elegia Luminosa" at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna; photography will be entrusted to Joel Meyerowitz's photographs, exhibited at the Collezioni Comunali d'Arte and at Palazzo Accursio, and to Mary Ellen Bartley in her exhibition "Morandi's Books" at the Museo Morandi; the video is by Tacita Dean with "Still Life. The studio of Giorgio Morandi" inside the new Pietro space; finally, Mark Vernon will be in charge of sound through installations and live performances.
Accompanying the five projects is the exhibition focus Morandi metaphysical. 

The background of ART CITY 2024 is Bologna itself, seen as a galaxy in which everything happens: an agglomerate of iridescent planets, pulsating stars, dark matter, dust, dancing undisturbed to the astronomical rhythm. 

Also confirmed this year is the appointment with Art City White Night, which will be held on the night of Saturday 3 February and where art lovers will be able to participate in a vast range of activities hosted in the most diverse types of public and private spaces
