directed by Leo Muscato original music by Paolo Fresu
The score, written and performed live by Paolo Fresu, and the text of Leo Muscato and Laura Perini, both bring back facts and episodes that happened throughout the life of the great trumpet player, in a swing between past and present: since his father gave him his first trumpet as a child, until just before he committed suicide by jumping down from a window of a hotel in Amsterdam.
«We bring the artist's life on stage, making also the flavour of different eras emerge. The figure of the great trumpet player is outlined, which, between dreams, uncertainties, excesses, has marked one of the most important pages in the history of music» asserts the director. «If his life and death are still shrouded in mystery today, his music is extraordinarily clear, logical and transparent, perhaps one of the most rational and architecturally perfect in the history of jazz» reflects Fresu. «So we wonder how come such a complex figure with his apparent disorder was able to express himself in music with such a logical and precise formal rigour».
