Gandini Juggling is a contemporary circus company founded in 1992 by world-renowned juggler Sean Gandini and champion rythmic gymnast Kati Ylä-Hokkala. It is caracterised by a unique way of reinventing and reinvigorating the language of juggling. The two artists constantly add elements of contemporary dance and mathematical notations to their work, opening up to the collaboration with artists of various backgrounds, which include among others visual artists, musicians, composers and even computer programmers. 9 jugglers, 80 apples, 4 ceramic tea sets, and a musical selection going from Bach to tracks of the 1930s. These are the key components of Smashed, a mesmerising mix of circus and theatre, inspired by Pina Bausch’s work Kontakthof of 1980, that remains the constant theme of the entire piece. Wouldn’t that be the perfect way to celebrate the New Year together?
