For the first time since its foundation in 1934, the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris is lending a body of unique works by some of the greatest Impressionist artists, many of which have never been exhibited elsewhere.
The exhibition may be mainly Monet, but it also Manet, Renoir, Degas, Corot, Sisley, Caillebotte, Morisot, Boudin, Pissarro and Signac.
Monet and the Impressionists. Masterpieces from the Musée Marmottan Monet runs from 13 March to 12 July 2020 at Palazzo Albergati in Bologna. There is no better way to get up to speed about how the world’s best-loved painting movement evolved.
After the huge success of the “Chagall. Sogno e magia” exhibition, Arthemisia is pleased to present this exceptional exhibition right here in Bologna. Alongside key masterpieces from French Impressionism such as Degas’ Portrait de Madame Ducros (1858), Renoir’s Portrait de Julie Manet (1894) and Monet’s Nymphéas (c. 1916-1919), the exhibition features works that have never been seen before because they have never left the Musée Marmottan Monet. These include Édouard Manet’s Portrait de Berthe Morisot étendue (1873), Claude Monet’s Le Pont de l’Europe, gare Saint-Lazare (1877), and Pierre Auguste Renoir’s Jeune Fille assise au chapeau blanc (1884).
Through these 57 masterpieces, the Monet e gli Impressionisti. Capolavori dal Musée Marmottan Monet exhibition also wishes to pay tribute to the many collectors and benefactors – including many friends and descendants of the artists on display – who since 1932 have enriched the prestigious Parisian museum’s collection to make it one of the finest and most important in preserving our collective memory of Impressionism.
Under the patronage of the Emilia Romagna Region and the Municipality of Bologna, the exhibition is staged and organized by Gruppo Arthemisia, in collaboration with the Musée Marmottan Monet of Paris, and curated by Marianne Mathieu, Scientific Director at the Museum
