From September 15th to December 3rd, 2017, the Museums of Ancient Art of the Institution Bologna Musei, in collaboration with the Department of Arts - Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, promote the exhibition "Luigi Crespi ritrattista nell'età di papa Lambertini" (Luigi Crespi portraitist in the age of Pope Lambertini) the first dedicated to the artist, literate and art merchant (1708-1779), son of the famous painter Giuseppe Maria (1665-1747)
The exhibition is a tribute to this multifaceted figure among the most interesting of the artistic and literary panorama of the eighteenth century in Bologna, in relation to the climate of cultural renewal favored by the enlightened pastoral work of Cardinal Prospero Lambertini who became Pope under the name of Benedict XIV.
Set up in the Davia Bargellini Museum, the exhibition presents the most significant core of Luigi Crespi's paintings here, together with other works from the Municipal Art Collections and loans from other important museums and private collectors in an anthological path articulated in seven thematic sections that, for the first time, allows to reconstruct the most important phases of his artistic affair.
